Dr. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko
Senator, Sokoto North Senatorial District
Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, Sarkin Yamman Sokoto, was born on 1 March 1953 in Wamakko town, Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State. He trained as a teacher at Sokoto Teachers’ College, taught in the old Sokoto education system, then earned a B.Sc. from the University of Pittsburgh (1980) and later postgraduate training in local-government administration. He served as local-government chairman, hotel-board general manager and Director-General in the Sokoto Governor’s Office; Deputy Governor (1999–2006); two-term Governor of Sokoto State (2007–2015); and Senator for Sokoto North from 2015. He is a founding pillar of APC in Sokoto and the political anchor of the structure that returned the party to Government House in 2023. In May 2026 APC affirmed him unopposed as the 2027 candidate for Sokoto North. He seeks a fourth Senate term to keep the district’s voice in Abuja and to back the SMART Agenda of Governor Ahmad Aliyu.
